If you're considering rhinoplasty, this information will give you a basic understanding of the procedure-when it can help, how it's performed, and what results you can expect. It can't answer all of your questions, since a lot depends on the individual patient and the surgeon. Please ask your surgeon about anything you don't understand.

The factors to determine whether you are a good candidate for Rhinoplasty are:

*
In comparison to your face your nose appears too large
*
A bump on the nasal bridge is visible when viewed in profile
*
When viewed from the front your nose appears too wide
*
Drooped or plunged the nasal tip
*
Thickened or enlarged nose tip
*
Excessively flared nostrils
*
Off-center or crooked nose
*
Asymmetrical nose due to previous injury

You need to have a clear idea about the desired look of your nose. Simultaneously you also need to be aware of limitations to the procedure.

Patients having sufficient physical and emotional maturity and who undergo rhinoplasty because they want to enhance their self-image are usually very satisfied with their decision.

Be rest assured that any incisions used to reshape your nose, will ultimately be very inconspicuous.

Alterations might be required to:

* increase or decrease the nasal bridge
* reduce the size or width of the nose
* narrow the nostrils
* change the angle between the nose and upper lip
* reshape the tip.

RISKS

Fortunately for patients, significant complications from rhinoplasty are infrequent. Year after year multitudes of people, who have their noses reshaped, experience no major problems and are pleased with the results. However one should be aware of both the benefits and risks when considering surgery.

A detailed information booklet will be provided with instructions and precautions for the immediate and early postoperative period. This will also discuss the sequelae of Rhinoplasty.

RESULTS

Rhinoplasty aims at a nose that not only looks natural but blends harmoniously with your other facial features as well. Because of the gradual healing process you should expect to wait up to one year to see the final results of your Rhinoplasty. A touchup might be desired occasionally to further improve the results. In this case, the required additional procedure is usually less extensive than the original operation.

It is important to regularly follow-up with your plastic surgeon.
