Rhinoplasty Research
Rhinoplasty or a “nose job” is used to modify the physical appearance of the nose or to correct functional problems such as: breathing difficulties (septoplasty) or injury reconstruction. The most common nose surgeries are performed to reduce the size of a large nose, remove a bump, lift the nose tip, narrow a wide nose and to correct a crooked nose.
Nose surgery is the most difficult cosmetic surgery procedure for any plastic surgeon to learn. This explains why so very few ever learn to master the technique and produce attractive and natural looking results. This is no time for you to be shopping for a “bargain.” You are going to live with the results of your surgery for the rest of your life and a poor result truly is “as plain as the nose on your face!” The difference in cost between an unskilled surgeon and a true artist is minimal, but the difference in the quality of the result can be dramatic and life changing!
A doctor is not only an expert in artistic beauty, he can also help you breathe better and improve nasal function. Also, if you made the mistake of not choosing an artist the first time, a doctor will apply all of his creative talents and help you make the most out of an unfortunate experience. Correcting a bad nose job (revision rhinoplasty) is the most difficult procedure of all and a doctor has turned disappointment into amazing beauty for many of his very satisfied patients.
Did you know that rhinoplasty can be performed painlessly and safely under twilight sedation? This allows you to avoid general anesthesia and its inherent risks and side effects. There are two surgery methods, the open and closed techniques. The open technique involves cutting the outside skin. The closed technique surgery is performed through the nostrils. During your consultation, a doctor will discuss the benefits and advantages of which technique he will undertake to beautify your nose.
Depending on the complexity, the surgery itself may last between 1 and 2 hours. As with any other surgery, there may be complications such as: bleeding, infection, pain, bruising, and difficulty breathing. A doctor will educate you on all the necessary steps to follow to sustain a speedy and complication free recovery.
What to expect before, during and after surgery:
1. Call or email for all questions or request a brochure by mail.
2. Schedule a free personal consultation to meet with a doctor and learn what can be accomplished in your particular case, tour the facility and meet the staff.
3. Obtain a pre-operative evaluation at the facility (included in the fee); examination and blood work.
4. Surgery in our certified facility (usually 1-2 hours, depending on complexity)
5. No one may drive after surgery! All patients may recover overnight in our facility, with a private nurse, if they prefer (optional at a cost of $300.00), or they will need a ride home or to their hotel.
6. Rest 24 hours, then may perform non-strenuous tasks. May drive when the effects of medication have worn off.
7. Packing removed in 24 hours, splint removed in one week.
8. Most people return to work after the splint is removed (about one week). Strenuous activities can be resumed one month post-operative.
